Who are you and what does your business do?

My name is Gregor Husemann, and I have been working in energy trading at DEW21 since 2011. My focus is on market analysis and supporting the trading desk. While the front office team itself is relatively small, my role as an analyst is to interpret market developments and prepare them for the traders.

DEW21 supplies customers in Dortmund and the surrounding region with electricity, gas and water. Around 500 employees work at DEW21, with another 500 in grid operations. Within energy trading and analysis, we operate as a small, specialised team that works very closely together.

What challenges do you face in your day-to-day work?

As a regional utility, we have to be very selective about the information sources we use. Unlike large trading organisations, we cannot rely on a wide range of parallel data and news providers. The main challenge was to receive relevant market information without being overwhelmed by a flood of irrelevant news each morning.

For daily market preparation in particular, it is crucial to quickly capture developments, put them into context and prepare them for internal discussions, without spending unnecessary time filtering and evaluating content.

How does Montel News support your daily work?

Montel News is my first point of reference each morning. Before our daily market meetings, I use the platform to gain a structured overview of relevant topics; from power and gas markets to broader energy policy developments.

The ability to filter content precisely is especially valuable. Compared to other news services, Montel’s reporting is far more focused on what actually matters for the energy market. This allows me to identify much faster which information is truly relevant for forming our market view.

What makes Montel News particularly valuable to you?

The main value lies in the combination of relevance and context. Instead of having to assess a large volume of unfiltered headlines, Montel News provides a curated selection that is already tailored to the energy market.

In addition, the exchange with Montel’s journalists is very valuable. Discussing market views and background information helps to either confirm our own assessment or consciously challenge it. This interaction between news and dialogue supports a well-founded market analysis.

How has Montel News changed your daily work?

Montel News has made our market preparation more efficient. I can bundle information more quickly, prioritise it better and enter discussions with traders in a more targeted way. This saves time and improves the quality of the internal decision-making basis.

Especially in a small team, this efficiency is essential to maintain a high level of market transparency despite limited resources.

What do you value most about working with Montel?

Both the quality and relevance of the reporting, as well as the straightforward collaboration. The contact with our account manager is pleasant and solution-oriented. Whenever there are questions or adjustments, responses are quick and pragmatic.

Stay on top of relevant market developments and make informed decisions.
