Comparing Battery Revenues in the GB market

Register for Comparing Battery Revenues in the GB market

With an explosion of battery capacity required under NESO’s Clean Power 2030 plan, interest in battery development in GB has never been higher. But with so many markets and revenue opportunities, it can be difficult to understand what the real value of one of these assets can be and how best to optimise their operations.

With this in mind, Montel has collated data from wholesale, balancing and ancillary markets to develop a view of historic battery revenues for every asset in the GB Balancing Mechanism (BM). By splitting out by-asset revenues into individual markets and services, we have developed a table which can demonstrate the value of each revenue stream for every battery asset in the BM, allowing for quick and easy comparisons over a variety of time periods.

Each asset’s Physical Notification (PN) has been valued using several methods against a set of different prices, including the day-ahead price and Market Index Data Price (MIDP). This gives a range of useful revenue indicators where specific order books for wholesale trades are not available.

The result is an accurate view of balancing and ancillary revenues for each asset and a choice of PN valuations in time series format which have been summarised for easy comparison in a table. This allows for a holistic and market-wide view of battery revenues which is of use when planning projects or developing trading strategies.

In this webinar, Senior Energy Analyst Fintan Devenney will demonstrate the value of the battery revenue product available at Montel.
